For years Jonny Allan refused to play Hendrix. Too obvious. Too easy. Too much baggage. Then one day he stopped treating the songs like museum pieces and started treating them like family property — something to argue with, tear apart, rebuild and make his own.
THE LORE
The world knew him as Jimi Hendrix. Jonny Allan remembers him as Dad.
Jonny’s mother was German — a young woman swept into the orbit of the rock scene at exactly the wrong, or perhaps exactly the right, moment.
She told her son Hendrix was his father. Jonny believed her then. He believes her now.
His earliest memories are fragments: visits, gifts, a man who seemed to arrive like Christmas and disappear just as quickly.
For years Jonny wanted nothing to do with Hendrix songs. Then one classified ad looking for musicians for a Hendrix project changed everything.
Jonny walked into a room, plugged in, and the Jonny Allan Trio was born.
Much of that story unfolded in Europe. Germany became more than geography; it became part of Jonny’s inheritance.
